Program: Groups (version 0.20) Short: Usenet newsgroups selection Files: groups020.spk Spark'd archive of the program groups020.txt A copy of this message Demon: /pub/acorn/utils/ Hensa: Package d116 These files replace the previous version, "groups017.spk" and "groups017.txt" *-- | If you have problems with strange groups appearing at the end of your "new groups" listing, you should upgrade to Newsbase version 0.59-pre-6 or greater, which has this problem fixed. The Newsbase web page is found at http://www.hep.umn.edu/~allan/newsbase/ | --* !Groups makes it easier to add and remove Usenet newsgroups from your news feed. It provides a window with two subwindows - a source window displaying a newsgroups list, or new groups, and a feed window displaying the groups you are currently receiving. Newsgroups are added or removed simply by double-clicking. Be sure to read the Help file for information on how to install and configure this application. Requirements ------------ * RISC OS 3.10 or greater * Newsbase version 0.54 or greater * A news transport system (e.g. ka9q or freenews) Features -------- * Quick display of a full newsgroups file. * Display of new groups created since you last checked. * Newsgroup interactive and wildcard searches. * Easy to add or remove groups - simply double-click. * Can drag group names to other applications (e.g. WWW browsers) * Optional merging of new groups into your main list. Installation ------------ I suggest you install !Groups inside !Newsbase.AutoBoot, unless you are likely to want to run it on its own, in which case you can put it in your main Internet directory. Newsbase will automatically run Groups when you choose the "New Groups..." option from its main menu, provided it has been seen previously by the filer. If you are upgrading from a previous version of Groups, simply copy the new version on top. Your configuration will be kept. Changes from 0.17 (last public release) to 0.20 ----------------------------------------------- Improved behaviour: * Windows tidied and made more Style Guide compliant. * The main window can now be arranged vertically (configuration window option) with one list above the other, allowing more of the group name to be seen, and using less screen space. * Debugging output available by command-line option in case of problems. * Now correctly "logs off" from Newsbase when it quits. Bugs fixed: * Fixed initial window opening in low-res modes. * Fixed "Invalid WIMP operation in this context" when clicking on an item under RISC OS 3.1. * Fixed detection of the newsgroups list, and greys out unavailable options correctly. * Fixed clicking beyond the end of the list. |> /+\ \| | |> -- David Croft. david@infotrek.demon.co.uk http://www.infotrek.demon.co.uk/
